Shot noise can be used to probe transport correlations in mesoscopic conductors. In the case of diffusive conductors where the electrons undergo Brownian motion through elastic scattering, the shot noise is reduced from its Poissonian value by a universal 1/3 factor. Remarkably, this identical 1/3 value emerges across fundamentally distinct theoretical frameworks, including quantum scattering theory, classical Boltzmann–Langevin kinetics, and symmetric simple exclusion processes, yet experimental tests have remained confined to degenerate conductors in cryogenic conditions.
In this presentation, I will report the room-temperature observation of this universal 1/3 shot noise suppression in a chemical system, using redox-cycling ferrocene molecules in a microfluidic electrochemical system.
