Topological crystals in two-dimensional materials

A large Berry curvature prevalent in graphene multilayer systems can combine with strong interaction to create a new phase of matter: topological electron crystals. These crystals carry nonlocal topology and Hall response, challenging our intuition that electron crystals consist of semiclassically localized particles. In this talk, I will survey some of the unusual properties of these crystals, and discuss model Hamiltonians that shed light on the mechanism behind these crystals.
