Prof. Jiang conducts research using scanning probe microscopy, particularly focusing on the real-space observation of film formation, orientation, and quantum phenomena of water molecules at the molecular level. His work has been highly evaluated, receiving several awards including the American Physical Society Fellowship in 2019, the Nishina Asia Award in 2020, and the Sir Martin Wood China Award in the same year.
Taking advantage of the award received in 2020, the visit by Prof. Jiang to ISSP and the lecture have finally been realized this time

His lecture, titled "Unravelling the molecular origin of water/ice anomaly with scanning probe microscopy" introduced fundamental and ambitious research, from observations of ice surfaces to capturing quantum phenomena such as the tunneling effect of a single hydrogen atom in real space. Recently, his research interests have expanded to time-resolved measurements combined with pulsed lasers and quantum measurements using the diamond NV center. He also expressed his exciting goal of observing a single hydrogen atom using NMR.

Additionally, before and after his lecture, he visited the Yoshinobu, Kondo, and Okazaki labs, where he interacted with young researchers and students. We look forward to vibrant research exchanges and communications in the field of surface materials in the future.
