A variety of scholarship opportunities are available from both public and private scholarship organizations including Japan Student Services Association and other local government organizations. Students can directly apply for some of these scholarships, however students may need to apply through the University of Tokyo for other scholarships.

The Doctoral Leading Program

The “Doctoral Education Leading Program” brings together top class faculties and students from Japan and abroad in order to lead outstanding students who can bring broad view and uniqueness when they enter into the global industries, academic institutions and government organizations. In collaboration with both public and private organizations, the University of Tokyo supports the fundamental reform of graduate school education and is dedicated to cultivating a world-class interdisciplinary doctoral degree program.

PhD students are also eligible to receive scholarships from the University of Tokyo doctoral research cooperation program.

ISSP Research Assistant

If you are an ISSP doctoral program student, you can apply for paid positions as an ISSP research assistant (ISSP RA). Other graduate schools of the University of Tokyo may also offer research assistant opportunities. As conditions may differ depending on the school, contact the ISSP General Affairs Office or the specific school representative for further details about the application schedule, remuneration, and whether or not you can accept more than one position etc.

ISSP Teaching Assistant

Exceptional ISSP research laboratory doctoral and master’s students can apply for teaching assistant (TA) positions to gain experience conducting actual experiments and assisting in practical training exercises. Please contact the ISSP General Affairs Office for details and rules including; period of assistantship, remuneration (hourly rates) and payment limitations.
