Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
The University of Tokyo is committed to fostering a fair and inclusive society that respects diversity and embraces co-existence. To this end, it established the University of Tokyo Declaration on Diversity & Inclusion in June 2022. The Institute for Solid State Physics (ISSP) also strives to create an environment and system that enable individuals to live and work in ways that reflect their authentic selves.
Programs Supporting Women in STEM and Female Researchers
In the field of condensed matter physics, the representation of female students and researchers remains low. To address this, ISSP is implementing initiatives aimed at increasing female participation. These efforts include providing timely and appropriate opportunities for education and research, introducing "current" role models, and creating dialogue spaces to listen to their voices. As part of these initiatives, ISSP offers the following three programs targeted at students (junior high school, high school, university, and graduate levels) and early-career researchers:
Let's Look into the Future!
For junior high and high school students
I Love Physics!
For undergraduate and graduate students
ISSP Women's Week
For graduate students and early-career researchers
To ensure these high-quality and impactful initiatives can be sustained over time, ISSP is currently accepting donations.

Support for Visitors with Children
To ensure that parenting responsibilities do not hinder research activities, ISSP is enhancing facilities to support parents participating in research meetings, workshops, and Joint Research activities held at the institute. This includes providing rooms for temporary childcare services and access to an on-campus daycare center.
(1)Participation in Conferences or Research Meetings Held at ISSP
For attendees of ISSP hosted or co-hosted conferences or workshops, ISSP can provide one of the institute's meeting rooms where event organizers can arrange for childcare service providers at their own responsibility. Event organizers typically fund professional childcare service providers using lab operating budgets or research grants. Those interested in setting up a temporary childcare space are encouraged to contact the ISSP faculty in charge.

(2)Visits for Joint Research Activities
For individuals visiting ISSP regularly for Joint Research activities, access to the on-campus daycare center(Kashiwa Donguri Day Nursery ) is available with certain conditions and subject to availability. Interested parties should directly contact the Joint Research Program Office for more information. As the application and review process may take time, it is recommended to make arrangements well in advance.
