Initially found in solid-state electron systems, the quantum Hall effect and topological insulator physics have recently been influencing a wide range of quantum as well as classical systems. In this talk, I will give a brief overview of the recent progress of topological physics in AMO-related systems, with an emphasis on my own works. Here, AMO systems stand for atomic, molecular, and optical systems. The talk will focus, in particular, on the progresses made in ultracold atomic gases and photonic (polaritonic) cavity arrays. Some topics which I plan to cover in depth include synthetic dimensions and the notion of quantum geometric tensor.
