Junhyeok Jeong, a master’s student in Kondo Lab, received the Award of Excellence in the poster presentation at the International Symposium on Quantum Electronics 2024 for his work on “Doping-dependent evolution of superconductivity on a multilayered cuprate”. The symposium was held from February 13 to 16 at the Ito International Research Center at the University of Tokyo.

The multi-layered system on cuprate provides plentiful information on the nature of superconductivities in cuprate families. The 4-layered cuprate may have large hole dopings and clean CuO2 planes, which may have an intriguing feature on the relationship of superconductivity and antiferromagnetic order.

Mr.Jeong and his research colleagues successfully measured dramatic changes in the superconducting gap size with a small range of hole doping.

The superconducting gap size measured in the four-layer structure is even bigger than in monolayer or bilayer cuprates, suggesting that strong superconducting pairing could be sustained under the presence of antiferromagnetic ordering.

As a result, this research and presentations led to the award.
