Multipolar Order and Spin Liquid in Kondo and Kitaev Materials
Date : Monday, December 18th, 2017 13:00 - 14:00 Place : Seminar Room 5 (A615), 6th Floor, ISSP Lecturer : Professor Yong Baek Kim Affiliation : Department of Physics, Professor of Physics, University of Toronto Committee Chair : Satoru Nakatsuji (+81-47-136-3240 (ex.63240))

We discuss recent theoretical developments in regard to two different classes of quantum materials. First, we present a theory of multipolar ordering phenomena in the Kondo material with a non-Kramers doublet, Pr(TM)2Al20 [1]. Secondly, we provide a theory of quantum spin liquid phase in the newly discovered Kitaev material, the hydrogen-intercalated honeycomb iridate, H3LiIr2O6 [2].

Possible avenues for future research in these systems will be discussed.
