Opening hour
- Opening hour of service desk
- Weekday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
- Closing day: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and new year's holidays (and also will be closed temporarily if necessary)
- How to use during evening hours and weekend
- Members of ISSP can use the library with the faculty/student ID card during evening hours and weekend.
- Available time
- Weekday 6:00 am - 9:00 am, 5:00 pm - 12:00 pm
- Others 6:00 am - 12:00 pm
- Requires: your faculty/student ID card
- Swipe your card through the card reader when you enter or leave the library.
- NOTE for use during evening hours and weekend
- The light switch for entrance, bookshelves and PC room is outside the front door, beside the card reader. The switch for reading room is beside service desk.
- The switch panel of air conditioner is inside the library, above the card reader.
- Please turn off the light and air conditioner when you leave the library.
User registration
- Academic/administrative staff
- You need to register.
- Requires: Application form(PDF)、your faculty ID card
- Location where applications should be submitted: ISSP Library (Other libraries CANNOT accept it)
- Graduate student

- For book loans/returns, book reserve/derivery service
You don't need to register. You can borrow books with your student ID card. - For photocopy ILL service
Only the first time, Application at ISSP Library is required.
Requires: Application form(PDF)、your student ID card
Location where applications should be submitted: ISSP Library (Other libraries CANNOT accept it)
- For book loans/returns, book reserve/derivery service
- Others (Visiting teachers, researchers, outpatient research students, etc (without an ID card).)
- For those who do not have a ID card but will be working at ISSP for a certain period of time, a unique ID card for the ISSP Library will be issued upon submission of a request from a member of ISSP staff.
- Please ask to ISSP Library.
Book loans
- Materials: Books only (not availavle: journals, books in laboratory, books for in-library use)
- Quantity: 10 vols.
- Period: 1 month
- Requires: your faculty/student ID card
- Some books are in-library use only.
- If your book is overdue, you CANNOT borrow other books.
- Outside hours of the service desk, you can borrow books by the lending machine.
Returns
- Books belonging to the ISSP Library
- Please return them to the counter of the ISSP Library.
- After business hours, please drop books into the book post outside the entrance.
- You can also return them to any UTokyo library (including the Kashiwa Library).
- Books belonging to other libraries on the Kashiwa campus, or other campuses.
- You can also return them to any UTokyo library.
- Books belonging to libraries on other universities, etc..
- Please return them to the ISSP Library.
Renewing book loans
- Books belonging to the ISSP Library
- You can renew via MyOPAC. Please go to "Check status of loan/reservation" menu.
- Academic/administrative staff: 9 times
- Student: 2 times
- Book loans may not be renewed if your book is overdue, or reserved by someone.
- Books belonging to other library
- You may renew via MyOPAC.
- Terms and conditions of the extention depend on each library's regulations.
- Books belonging to other university/institute
- For details, please ask to the ISSP Library.
Overdue books
- When you have overdue books, you will have penalties.
- If the due date is exceeded, borrowing and renewing are not permitted for a period equal to the number of days overdue the material was returned
- Borrowing and Renewing are not permitted while you have overdue books.
- If you have some overdue books, you will have penalty according to the longest period of the overdue books.
Photocopies
- There is a card-operated copy machines, but no coin-operated one.
- Requires: Xerox card of your laboratory
- At your own expense: you must arrange for payment at the cashier's window. (Service hours: weekday 9:30 am - 12:00 am, 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm. You must to finish all procedure by 4:30 pm.)
NOTE - Photocopying is limited by copyright law, and please fill out an "Application for Photocopy" form.
- We turn off a machine to save energy. If you need it, please turn on.
Reserve/derivery of books
- Fee
- Free (Only if you order to libraries of other universities/institutes and you use the book for a purpose other than research and education, you must pay actual costs.)
- Order via MyOPAC.
- Log in to MyOPAC.
- Search the book you need.
- When the book on other campus is in state to deliver, you may find "Reserve" button.
- Please click the button and complete necessary information.
- When you CANNOT find "Reserve" button,
You can order to deliver the book from other university/institute. Please click "Order" button in the upper right corner of the screen, and complete necessary information. - NOTE
- Books belonging to the ISSP Library.
- You can reserve the book belonging to the ISSP Library only when the book is on loan.
- When the book is available, the library will notify you by e-mail. Please borrow them at the library.
- Books belonging to libraries on the Kashiwa campus, or other campuses.
- You can pick up the books at the ISSP Library, the Kashiwa Library, the General Library and the Komaba Library.
When you make a MyOPAC request, please select which libray you will pick up your ordered book. - The ordered book arrives at your select library. When the book arrives, library will notify you by e-mail, and please pick up the book at the counter.

- You can pick up the books at the ISSP Library, the Kashiwa Library, the General Library and the Komaba Library.
Derivery of photocopie
- Fee
- Free (Only if you use the photocopies for a purpose other than research and education, you must pay actual costs.)
- Order via MyOPAC.(the ISSP Library recommends this way)
- Log in to MyOPAC.
- Search the journal title including the artcile you need, not by article title.
- When the journal is in state to take photocopies, you may find "Copy" or "PDF" button.
- Check the "Volumes" to see whether the library has the volume including the article you need. If the library has it, please click "Copy" or "PDF" button, and complete necessary information.
- When you CANNOT find "Copy" or "PDF" button,
You can order to deliver the photocopies from other university/institute. Please click "Order" button in the upper right corner of the screen, and complete necessary information. - Order to the ISSP Library.
- Please ask to the library desk, or send e-mail to the ISSP Library.
- Requires: information of the article you need, incl. journal title, published year, volume and issue, pages, article title, auther.
- PDF request service
- This service is not provided on paper. The photocopies of the article you need are provided in PDF format, and you can view the file via MyOPAC. Because the service on paper take time for delivery, the ISSP Library recommends PDF request service.
- When you can view the PDF file, you may receive e-mail. You must view the file within two weeks from the day you receive the notice. Please note that you CANNOT view the file after the day.
- Address for delivery of photocopies on paper
- You can choice the ISSP Library or your laboratory as address for delivery.
- If you choice the ISSP Library, the photocopies arrive at the ISSP Library. When the photocopies arrive, the ISSP Library will notify you by e-mail, and please pick ut them at the library desk.
- If you choice your laboratory, the photocopies arrive at your laboratory directly by internal mail on campus. So, please fill out collect address of your laboratory incl. room number. Please note that if your laboratory is outside of Kashiwa campus, you CANNOT choice your laboratory as address for delivery.
- Journals belonging to other libraries on Kashiwa campus
- You CAN order only PDF to Kashiwa Library.
- You CANNOT order photocopies on paper to Kashiwa Library, or photocopies on paper and PDF to other libraries. Please go to the libraries and take photocopies by yourself.
Book purchase request
- You can make a request for materials which the ISSP Library must house, or materials which members of the ISSP may need.
- Via UT MyOPAC
- Any of the methods below can be used to make a request for library purchase.
- Log in to MyOPAC, and make the request from the "Books Request" menu.
- Log in to MyOPAC , and search for a book, the "Request" button displayed on the left side of the search result.
- NOTE On "Selection of a location", please select "ISSP Lib.". If "ISSP Lib." isn't displayed, please ask to the library staff.
On the MyOPAC, you may find similar menu, "Book Request" and "Book Order". Please use "Book Request".
- By e-mail
- Please send e-mail with either one of the following to the ISSP Library.
- If you request electronic version of materials, please tell us its content, why you need it, and who may use it.

- NOTE
- We'll check the availability of materials you request and order it. Also we ascertain whether the ISSP Library house it.
- We may not be able to meet your expectation because the materials are out-of-stock or out-of-print.
- When you need the materials in a hurry, please tell us. But when the materials are out-of-stock, you may need several months to get it.
- In case of electronic version of materials: We'll contract it year by year. So if you need it for the year up ahead, please request again.
- In case of electronic version of materials: We'll evaluate whether we contract it by its content and price, how many person request it and use it. But we may not be able to meet your expectation.
Computers and Internet access
- Computers
- There are 3 computers with Windows, no Mac.
- Win1: for Internet only, incl. searching UT OPAC. Other application or database are not installed.
- Win2、Win3: These are for members of the ISSP only. Some databases and Microsoft Office are installed.

- Printer
- You can print out from "Win2" and "Win3".
- Internet access
- Carrels are with cables of the ISSP LAN. You can also use Wi-Fi.

Binding machine and tools
- Binding machine
- There is a binding machine.
- You can choose among 2 types, "X tape binding" or "half-back binding". Please buy components for binding at the stock room on 2nd floor. Before that, please check binding samples in the ISSP Library.

- Libraries on campus
- The conditions of use, incl. opening hour differ among libraries. Please check the conditions on the web site before visiting.
- Libraries of other universities/institutes
- You may need a letter of introduction from the ISSP Library. Please contact the ISSP Library beforehand.
