An introduction to the stochastic series expansion method

Stochastic series expansion has emerged as one of the most powerful methods for studying quantum spin and boson systems, at finite temperature as well as in the ground state (ultra-low temperatures at which finite T effects are completely negligible). Here I will give a basic introduction to the method, focusing on applications to the S=1/2 Heisenberg model for which a loop algorithm is particularly efficient and easy to implement.
