High Pressure Synthesis Section

In the High Pressure Synthesis Section, high pressures (up to 100 GPa or more) and high temperatures (up to several thousand °C) can be generated using high pressure generating apparatus, namely, the Multi-Anvil apparatus and the Diamond Anvil Cell. It is possible to perform research to clarify the crystal structures of materials as well as their physical properties under high pressure and high temperature. Furthermore, on the basis of the results obtained in the above-mentioned experiments, we can study the interior of the Earth and other planets, or we can synthesize new materials (such as those that cannot be synthesized at ambient pressure).

 
Main Facilities
  1. Wakatsuki-type cubic 700 ton press for high pressure and high temperature experiments up to 4 GPa.
  2. DIA- type cubic 250 ton press for compression test at room temperature.
  3. DIA-type “CAPRICON” 500 ton press for high pressure and high temperature experiment up to 7 GPa.
  4. Wakatsuki-type “IROHA” 700 ton press for high pressure and high temperature experiments up to 23 GPa. High pressure is generated in this apparatus by a double-stage-multi-anvil system.
  5. Diamond Anvil Cell for high pressure and high temperature experiments to 100 GPa or more.
  6. Laser heating system for DAC.
  7. X- ray diffractometer for DAC.
  8. X-ray diffractometer for small area.
  9. Micro-Raman spectrometer.
  10. YAG laser cutting machine.
  11. others: Electric discharge machine, Grinding machine, Lathe machine, Modeling machine(computer control), etc.
